INVASION
In March, 1944, Germany invades Hungary and launches a mass deportation of the country’s Jewish population. In the tranquil village of Sighet, Solomon Markowitz, a larger-than-life Jewish landowner, philanderer and absentee father of five, crafts the perfect plan: to take his wife Leah and their five children into an abandoned gold mine he’d prepared for them deep in the Carpathian woods and hide there until the war’s end.
WHAT HE HASN’T TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION IS THE MAD, VINDICTIVE FURY OF LOCAL
NAZI COMMANDANT KURT SPERL.
