ON THE EVE OF THE FORCED EXPULSION  OF SIGHET’S ENTIRE JEWISH POPULATION,

Solomon Markovitz gathers his estranged wife Leah and their five neglected and  rebellious children and leads them into the abandoned gold mine that Solomon had prepared in advance, with the help of his close friend Ion, a local farmer.

When local SS Commandant Kurt Sperl learns he has a deficit of seven Jewish souls who dared to evade the deportation order, he’s outraged and humiliated; boosted by his addiction to Previtin, Germany’s infamous “courage drug”, the young SS officer embarks on an all-consuming search to find and punish the missing family.
